We are working in partnership with one remote African village; SANKWIA with the aims of supporting sustainable development, reducing poverty and improving education for all irrespective of race, religion or gender.
The charity was formed in 2006 following a decision of the Amlwch Town Council to twin with SANKWIA. The charity is proud that it has no administration costs.
All work done by members is done voluntarily. Costs of printing, stationery, postage etc is borne by members. Every penny that is donated is spent for the benefit of the village.
At the National Eisteddfod at Cardiff in 2008, Cyfeillion Sankwia Friends became the first organisation in the world to receive an United Nations Gold Star Communities Award.
The award was presented by, the then Wales First Minister, Rhodri Morgan and was in recognition of our work with children in SANKWIA .
Commenting on the Gold Star Scheme Former Archbishop Desmond Tutu stated,
‘The work being done by Gold Star Communities and links between Wales and Africa is truly an inspiration. Follow your passion and you will change the world!’
We are supported by the WCVA Gold Star Communities Project and the
Welsh Assembly Government “Wales for Africa Scheme”.
